Wacken - louder then hell (S3D)

Posted by  torsten  Sep 2, 2013

A long project was brought to an end "Wacken - louder then hell". A S3D documentation about the worlds biggest heavy metal festival in Wacken.

During the one year preparation phase we tested cameras such as SinaCam, IndieCam, Flare, SI-2k and Modula Baby MKII with Cmos- and CCD-Sensor as well as a wide range of stereo 3D mirror rigs, recorder and lens control systems.

At the end of the test the production decided to shoot with the P+S micro Rig with Modula Baby MKII (CCD-Sensor) and 12mm Kowa prime lenses. The best recording option was the Gemini with 3D-upgrade because it is mobile enough to be used on the festival environment. For this project we developed together with Betz-Tools a tethered 3D lens control system. Kowa provided us with a couple of 12mm lenses so that we could pick the best matching pairs for the shoot.

At the end we had a comparatively light stereo 3D mirror rig: 16kg shoulder system that could withstand the headbanging crowd of Wacken.

Overall a great project with many challenges. The result will be seen in 2014 in the cinema!

We are of course looking forward to the next challenges.
